The parables of Jesus
The Purpose of Jesus' Parables
And when Jesus was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable. And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
Mark 4:10-12
There is a very important lesson in these verses that often goes over looked. We've all been there when someone is telling you something important but at the time we was not really paying close attention, distracted by other thoughts or fiddling with our phone so that what was told then goes in one ear and out the other, and the message is lost! The adversary is all about distracting us from knowing the truth as we learn in the parable of the sower.
The Key: Ask and it will be given to you.
Jesus taught many things in parables, and even His devoted followers, and disciples did not fully understand the meanings. But here is the key to this lesson, and all of Christ's teachings. Rather than guessing or just going on their way as did the crowds, the ones who really wanted to know the truth went directly to Jesus in private and asked Him to reveal the meaning! And we can likewise. Through faith, prayer, patience and perseverance the Holy Spirit, that is, the spirit of truth will guide us into all things truth. If we come to him as little children, that is, in humility, and ask for understanding, Jesus will not fail us us, and those who really want to know will not be disappointed. All we have to do is ask.
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you."
Matthew 7:7
